HGR03 transmission gratings consist of equally spaced parallel grooves and separate light by diffraction and interference. The source lists applications in biochemical instruments, spectroscopy instruments and spectrophotometers.
Transmission gratings offer simple optical layouts and are suitable for fixed-grating applications such as spectrometers. The incident beam is dispersed at a fixed angle behind the grating. The source describes reduced sensitivity to certain grating alignment errors and to polarization.
The source states that a relatively low groove density supports high diffraction efficiency. Diffraction angle increases with groove density, while substrate refractive index limits transmission at longer wavelengths and reduces performance. Their dispersion makes these gratings suitable for compact systems with small detector arrays.
