Product description

Plano-convex lenses have one flat surface and one convex surface, with a positive focal length. They can focus collimated light, collimate a point source or reduce the divergence of a beam.

Non-standard GLA11 models include N-BK7, ZF and H-ZLAF2A, with different coatings. Check the material and specifications for each model; standard N-BK7 tolerances are not assumed for ZF or H-ZLAF2A lenses.

To reduce spherical aberration when focusing a collimated beam, orient the curved surface toward the incoming light. For collimating a point source, orient the flat surface toward the source.

GLA11 standard lenses are available uncoated or with four broadband antireflection coatings: A (350–700 nm), B (650–1100 nm), C (1050–1700 nm) and AB (400–1100 nm). Special wavelength and material requirements, including 532 nm, 808 nm, 1064 nm, 400–700 nm and 650–1200 nm, can be discussed through a custom quotation.

An uncoated glass surface reflects approximately 4% of normally incident light. Antireflection coatings reduce surface reflection, improve transmission and help limit ghost reflections in systems with multiple optical elements.

For mounting, select a holder appropriate to the lens diameter and curvature. The referenced fixed lens mounts use SM05 (0.535″-40), SM1 (1.035″-40) or SM2 (2.035″-40) threads; MLNR-style mounts provide additional retaining-ring tool clearance. Mounts and other components are separate from the lens.

The schematic is for reference only and must not be used as a manufacturing drawing. Use the individual model specifications and model drawing when selecting a lens.

Technical notes

Paraxial thin-lens estimate: f ≈ R / (n − 1), where R is the radius of the curved surface and n is the refractive index. Use the listed focal length and back focal length for each model.

Review the material, dimensions and other specifications listed for the individual model. Check any available curves against the model's stated operating range.

Illustrations and printable specification summaries are reference information, not manufacturing drawings. Confirm technical suitability and final requirements with your quotation.
